Day (9) and (10) – 31 days after deployment
A month after deployment, likely marking the final days of sampling for this experiment, we spent two intensive days at our site collecting various samples. These included carbonate chemistry water samples, sediment epifaunal cores, and tracer cores. On the first day, we collected three sediment cores (10 cm in diameter) from each plot to analyze epifaunal communities. Additionally, we retrieved 20 tracer cores from the tracer plots. Day two consisted of another round of 180 pH measurements for Lennart rocking on the boat while the divers extracted water samples from the plots, often working upside down to ensure precision. The minerals are no longer visible with the naked eye in the sediment. The night between the two days turned into a long one, as we had to add formalin to the epiphytes and calibrate the sonde in preparation for redeployment the next day. Despite the hectic pace, we took a brief moment to appreciate a stunning sunset overlooking the peninsula, a reminder of the beauty of where we live, amidst the chaos of fieldwork.
